Knapp Engineering, Inc. dba Structural Solutions,
was founded in 1980 as a mechanical-structural-marine engineering
design firm. Since 1984, the company has specialized in
the development of software for designing cables. Several
of its employees are active in cable research and have authored
a number of publications related to the mathematical modeling
of cables. The first commercially available cable design
software, Knapp-SAC (TM) (Stress Analysis of Cables), was released
by the firm in 1984. Since then, Structural Solutions has
been dedicated to the continuing development of premier design
software for cables, ropes and flexible pipe. Its recent
release of CableCAD is a major advance in cable modeling by its
introduction of finite element analysis.
